1st Forum for Film Education

The Forum for Film Education takes place on 27–28 November 2025 at the Department of Media Studies of the University of Amsterdam, hosted in the historic Chirurgisch Theater, and is organised by Film Studies staff member Blandine Joret and Thijs Witty (Leiden University). This inaugural forum brings together scholars, educators, curators, filmmakers, and practitioners from across disciplines to explore the evolving landscape of film pedagogy, from early screen education to adult media literacy. Over two days, the programme features a keynote lecture by Jan Masschelein (KU Leuven), three panels, two roundtable discussions, and a range of side events including a VR installation and a toddler film screening. Contributions from international researchers and practitioners address film literacy, pedagogical approaches, and archival and curatorial practices. Students may participate for 1 EC via NICA through active attendance and preparatory readings. The full programme is available as a PDF, and registration is now open.
